Espn's Everett Eloquent On Penn State
Tuesday was a bizarre day, to say the least, when it came to what happened in State College, Pa. Some of the twists and turns were woven into the reporting of it all, including on ESPN. Foremost was Matt Millen's conflicted-to- the-hundreth-power segment with Chris McKendry in the afternoon, one in which the Penn State alum and former player for Jerry Sandusky had angry tears well up as he discussed the situation. It was stunning to watch it live. Many surely saw it later as it was given the ...
This Day in Buffalo Sports History: Dramatic Finish
November 9, 1980 -- The Bills and Jets put on one of the most thrilling games of a relatively exciting (at least for the 6-3 Bills) 1980 season on this day. It started as if the Bills were going to blow the Jets out of Shea Stadium. Joe Ferguson threw two touchdown passes to Mark Brammer, and Nick Mick-Meyer added a field goal. That put Buffalo up, 17-0, early in the second quarter. The 2-7 Jets figured to cave in a bit at that point.
It seems there's a good chance that Amber Dixon will appoint a chief academic officer this week, if she can rally enough votes on the board to support her choice. According to the timeline she gave me most recently, it seemed she wanted to have someone in place right around now. The deadline for applications was over a month ago. And the most likely candidate still seems most likely to be Fran Wilson, as noted here before. Lately, it seems that everywhere Dixon goes, Wilson's nearby -- whethe...
The Sabres did a lot of video work and then were on the ice for more than an hour today in First Niagara Center. Most of the emphasis was on defense, especially because of their lack thereof in Tuesday's 6-5 win over Winnipeg. Andrej Sekera and Tyler Myers were both minus-3 in that game and Buffalo's top pair was briefly broken up late in the second and into the third period.
Bret Michaels to Perform in Rapids Theatre
Rocker Bret Michaels will perform a concert at 7 p.m. Dec. 15 in the Rapids Theatre (1711 Main St., Niagara Falls). Tickets are $30 advance, $35 day of show and go on sale Nov. 11 through the box office, online at www.ticketmaster.com or charge by phone at (800) 745-3000. The $5 day of show increase will be waived for a wrapped toy of the same value to be donated to Children's Hospital or a foundation of Michaels' choice.
Four starters for the Dallas Cowboys did not practice Wednesday, and three of them are either out or looking doubtful for Sunday's game against the Bills. Receiver Miles Austin and cornerback Mike Jenkins both are out with hamstring injuries. Austin will be replaced by veteran backup Laurent Robinson. Jenkins will be replaced by Orlando Scandrick, with Alan Bell stepping up into the No. 3 cornerback role. No. 2 running back Felix Jones did not practice Wedensday due to an ankle injury that ha...
Gailey, Offense Pick Up Pieces
Bills coach Chan Gailey said he's not worried about quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick rebounding from Sunday's loss to the New York Jets. Said Gailey: "I think he will. I don't think there's any question. He's already done that this year and I think he will continue to do it. If that was my biggest problem, I wouldn't have any problems."
It appears Bills rookie Chris Hairston will be manning the left tackle position - opposite Dallas sackmaster DeMarcus Ware - in Sunday's game in Dallas. Hairston missed the Washington game with a sprained ankle and dressed but did not play against the Jets on Sunday. But Hairston is confident he's healthy to play this week. If he makes it through practice OK this week, it's expected he will start and Andy Levitre will slide back inside to right guard.
Cuomo Says Poloncarz Tapped Into Voter Frustration
ALBANY -- Gov. Andrew Cuomo was on a taking-credit tour on two radio shows this morning for the election victories Tuesday by three Democrats he supported, including Erie County Executive-elect Mark Poloncarz. While the state Democratic Party poured more money into races on Long Island than the Erie County contest, Cuomo did make a personal appearance with Poloncarz in a last-minute campaign event Friday. Cuomo did the most lifting for Steve Bellone, the Democrat who won the Suffolk County Ex...
