The Yahoo! data center, expected to receive its local approvals this week, is the latest feather in the cap of what is arguably the most successful industrial park in Niagara County.

The 400-acre Town of Lockport IDA Park currently boasts 13 tenants with a total of 382 employees, according to its 2008 report. The $150 million Yahoo! project, a 191,000-square-foot grouping of prefabricated metal pods packed with computer servers and other hardware, would add about 75 permanent jobs to that total.

Yahoo! is to pay $450,000 to the town Industrial Development Agency for a 30-acre site bounded by Junction Road and Crown and Enterprise drives.

David R. Kinyon, who took over from Lewis L. Staley at the start of this year as IDA administrative director and town economic- development coordinator, said the Yahoo! project is a new beginning for the industrial park....
