A state audit criticizes the Town of Aurora for allegedly overpaying four highway and parks employees a total of $19,000 in 2009 in sick leave and vacation benefits.

"Because a town official did not review employees' use of leave time, the town may have paid four employees $19,000 in excess of policy and collective bargaining agreement provisions for various types of leave," said the state comptroller's audit. The overpayments included $16,900 in improper sick leave and $2,100 in vacation leave that should not have been paid.
