There's nothing spectacular about the way John Boyer plays point guard for the University at Buffalo. He's neither fast nor quick. Rarely will he break down defenses off the dribble. He's not going to light up anybody for 20 points.
Yet Boyer's been the unsung hero behind UB's 8-4 overall, 1-0 Mid- American Conference start heading into Thursday's MAC game at Bowling Green. He scores when opportunities present themselves, averaging 7.6 points. He has a knack for snaring meaningful rebounds. And his 65 assists against just 25 turnovers speak to the handle he has on the UB offense, the sound decisions he makes.
