Collins Pushes to Rid County Budget of Nonmandated Costs

Erie County's budget director said Friday that the Collins administration wants to shed nonmandated county programs at a faster rate than it has done so far.

County Executive Chris Collins arranged for Catholic Charities to run the federally funded Women, Infants and Children nutrition program in Erie County. He also intends to drop some of the care offered at county-run health clinics, and a program that helps the working poor find day care. He expects the Sheehan Health Network and a state agency to instead provide the services.
