State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli on Friday called for the State Legislature to return to hashing out budget differences in public conference committees, just as new poll results show the public getting fed up with another late spending plan.

"My hope is that this will create the dynamic in which parties will come to the table," DiNapoli said in a meeting with editors and reporters of The Buffalo News. "We've got to have rank-and- file members sitting around a table discussing in public what the options are. In the years we did it, it made a difference."
