A few weeks ago, actress Helen Mirren appeared on "The Daily Show" to dutifully try to promote the movie "Love Ranch," a film set in a Nevada brothel in the 1970s and directed by her husband, Taylor Hackford ("Ray"), who should have known better.

Dame Helen was telling Jon Stewart about her improbable role as Grace Bontempo, the aging madame of a bordello that she runs with her even more improbable spouse: "Only my husband [Hackford] could look at me and say, 'Who could play Helen Mirren's husband?,' I know! Joe Pesci!"
