The region's stretch of 237 days without snow came to an abrupt end early Tuesday.

Snow flurries started flying shortly after midnight, and by the time the lake-effect snow band and general snowstorm had drifted out of the area, it dumped 5.8 inches on the National Weather Service office in Cheektowaga. The snowfall ended the longest snowless stretch in 61 years and the fourth-longest dating back to 1884.
