More and more, New Yorkers seem to be realizing that opposition to same-sex marriage is based on a hurtful prejudice. The main justification for opposition that it would somehow undermine marriage among heterosexuals -- is crumbling as homosexuals are increasingly seen to be living, breathing humans -- our friends and relatives.
Still, Albany has resisted the moral imperative to allow homosexuals access to the same legal marriage rights as heterosexuals. Now, that resistence appears to be crumbling. Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo says he is optimistic a gay marriage bill will soon be approved in New York. We encourage the Senate, which has blocked the bill in the past, to approve it now.See the full content of this document
