I enjoyed Saturday mornings in late spring when Dad and I piled into the car to collect leaves for my school project.

We'd wind our way along country back roads and hike through Indiana's state parks in search of just the right leaves for my collection. As we hiked along the nature trails, the smell of damp earth filled our nostrils, and the sun's rays, penetrating through tree branches, warmed the tops of our heads. When we stopped to look up, we'd see an occasional cloud suspended in the blue sky overhead. The birds sang. Insects chirped, and occasionally a chipmunk, squirrel, or garter snake made a rustling sound to one side of the path.
