Summary
The dinner hour was always sacred to my family. At 5:15 on the dot, supper had to be on the table when dad came home from a day at the factory. As he entered our small flat, the steaming food was ready. Of course this was in the old days before fast food, when families sat down to share their meals together. We would talk about our day.
Invariably my sister and I would discuss other foods we loved, and ask mom for favorites -- homespun classics like meatloaf or chicken soup. Mom was a good cook, but with a limited repertoire.
