General Motors' Town of Tonawanda engine plant has brought back 42 hourly workers from layoff, partly to prepare for a $400 million engine line on the way.

Thirty skilled-trades workers returned to work Monday, and 12 production workers came back to work last week, said Mary Ann Brown, a spokeswoman for the plant.
