We've all heard of Shrek, the green-skinned creature born in the mind of children's book author William Steig and later transformed into digital pixels for the popular series of animated films. But chances are you haven't heard of Ogre, a Western New York mural artist whose playful, cartoonish spray-painted images -- along with a fully imagined artistic persona -- will be on view starting tonight in 464 Gallery (464 Amherst. St.).
In an artist statement that deserves plaudits for originality, the artist describes that persona with a mini-biography: "Ogre born, grow big and get bored. He watch and learn stuff in south Ogre hill town," the biography reads, going on to explain the artist's coming of age and eventual relocation to the "cool frozen lake place" known as Buffalo.
