Summary

In a surprising move that's a huge boost to their lineup, the Bisons have announced that slugging third baseman Mike Hessman has been activated off the disabled list and will be available for tonight's game in Rochester. Hessman has been out since suffering a stress fracture of the hand June 6 in Norfolk. He played Sunday for the Gulf Coast League Mets, going 2 for 4, and apparently felt his hand was good to go. Normally, players take more than one game on rehab but Hessman has been antsy to return and wants to be in the lineup this weekend when the Herd plays his former team, Toledo.

When he was injured, Hessman led all of professional baseball with 57 RBIs and was tops in the International League with 18 home runs. He is batting .287 and his 18 homers still rank tied for third-most in the IL. His .616 slugging percentage is just five plate appearances shy of qualifying as the league's best.
