The Buffalo Homeschooler team received the 2011 Erie County Envirothon award at Elma Senior Center, Village Green Park in April. The team earned the privilege of advancing to the New York State Envirothon held at Hobart and William Smith Colleges May 25- 26. Buffalo Homeschoolers placed seventh out of 47 counties. They had the highest score in the wildlife category.

Coordinated by the Erie County Soil and Water Conservation District, the Erie County Envirothon is an outdoor, hands-on natural sciences competition that challenges students in the categories of forestry, wildlife, aquatics, soils and a current issue topic.

The Envirothon is held annually and open to all high schools in Erie County. Participating high schools included North Collins, Williamsville-South, East Aurora, Grand Island, Orchard Park, Springville-Griffith and Buffalo Homeschoolers.
