Assemblyman Sam Hoyt survived the anti-incumbency, anti- establishment mood of voters Tuesday to narrowly beat back another primary challenge from Democrat Joseph Golombek Jr.

Hoyt, armed with a campaign war chest that allowed him to outspend Golombek by a 4-to-1 ratio, won 52 percent of the primary vote and the right to take on Republican Brian Biggie in the Nov. 2 general election.
