Black Friday came early this year. Retailers are hoping that hint of desperation will make avid bargain-hunters smell blood in the water, and move in for the kill.
The desperation is real, and recession-driven. While economic recovery may indeed be under way, it's a jobless recovery so far and consumers are still wary of spending any more than they have to.
