Thursday at Artpark, high notes mixed with the sounds of high summer, as the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra presented "The Best of Italian Opera."

On this sultry night, Verdi was helped along by choruses of cicadas. The hall was full of fluttering programs, as people fanned themselves. Outside in the heat at intermission, one opera fan was overheard telling another, "Pretend we're in Italy."
