Paul Gaustad likes the expectations that surround the Buffalo Sabres this season. He spent much of his summer in Western New York getting ready and bonding with possible linemates Patrick Kaleta and Nathan Gerbe, and the trio combined for eight points and all three goals in Monday's exhibition opener against Carolina.

"We want to be champions and that's the attitude we're taking from rookies to veterans," said Gaustad, who was not among the players who went to Montreal for Wednesday's 3-1 win over the Canadiens in the Bell Centre.
