Political reformers, whether they are running for town supervisor or president of the United States, must remember one thing: The status wouldn't be quo if it didn't benefit somebody.

The benefit may be financial, political or just the comfort of doing things the way they've always been done. But the way things are, are usually that way for a reason that at least at one time seemed a good idea to somebody. Those who wish to bring change are destined to fail unless they can grasp that fact, learn the difference between picking a fight and choosing a battle, be willing to compromise where possible and never make an enemy by accident.
