After an almost yearlong effort to lift a 1960s-era ban on dog walking in Cheektowaga's parks, the approximately 20 people who spoke at a public hearing Monday seemed evenly split about whether the town should try it.

A proposed ordinance was designed as a trial to allow dogs on leashes and mandate owner pickup of the animal waste in 15 of the 17 parks until December, when the Town Board would evaluate its success.
