Ruthetta Scott Smikle, a music educator and administrator who worked in the Buffalo Public Schools for more than 40 years, died Saturday in her North Buffalo home. She was 77.

Born Ruthetta O. Scott in Buffalo, she was a graduate of East High School and Rosary Hill College, where she was the first African-American student enrolled. She also received a master's degree in music education from the University of Buffalo and a diploma in education administration from Niagara University.
