Summary
Sometimes my heart strings pull so hard, I can't ignore their calling. In June, I took a leave of absence from my job at Community Missions to go to eastern Long Island in order to help my parents, whose health was failing. I intended to stay for one month.
Mom has a leaking valve in her heart. She is not a candidate for open-heart surgery because she is 89 years old and quite frail. Dad is 93, blind and barely recovered from a bout of shingles.
