1. Mardi Gras in Buffalo this year is more elaborate than ever. More floats on the 5 p.m. parade route down Elmwood Avenue, over Allen Street, through the Chippewa Street party zone, back up Delaware Avenue and over to Days Park. Shea's Performing Arts Center has moved its 11th annual Martini Gras festivities to this night. No fewer than three dozen nightspots along the parade route are offering something special. And to top it all off, it marks the start of the Give for Greatness drive to make local arts groups move vibrant. Bon temps roulez!

2. What's next for the Buffalo Joint Commission to Examine Police Reorganization? Rocked to its foundations by the arrest of its interim chairman during a big cocaine ring roundup last week, it lost its vice chairman and three other members Monday. It will hold a news conference at 11 a.m. in Common Council Chambers to talk about the arrest and reaffirm its mission. Then it plans to meet and choose a permanent chairman. "We're not going away," temporary chairman Joseph Mascia said over the weekend. "One bad apple doesn't spoil the bunch."
