Summary
As my journey as a single mother winds its way to a new plateau with my son graduating from high school and heading to an out-of- state university this fall, I feel compelled to write a heartfelt thank you to all his "fathers." My thanks are directed to an array of men -- young and old, recent and past, dead and alive, near and far -- all who contributed to the development of this solid young man, caring citizen, soccer nut and engineer of the future.
Everywhere my son Evan and I lived -- in downtown Buffalo as early home-owning renegades, the high peaks of the Adirondacks (where getting the Sunday paper was a 12-mile round trip!), and the small city of Batavia -- we have been "villagers" in the "it takes a village to raise a child" sort of way.
